On the hill above today's parish court, as the chapel of the Parish of Sveti Križ Začretje, stood the church of St. Helena. It was such a small church that only the altar was under the roof, while all the people who came to Mass had to stand under the open sky. The great earthquake that hit Hrvatsko Zagorje in 1775 caused significant damage to the already dilapidated church, and a new one was built. In 1803, the Reverend Kukec built a tower with an apple and a cross on the front of the church, and the church is known today as the Church of St. Helena the Crusader.
