The foundation stone of this church was personally blessed in 1998 by the beloved Pope John Paul II in Marija Bistrica when he beatified Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac during his visit to Croatia. Cardinal Bozanić led the celebration of the Eucharist in the presence of 50 priests from the Zagreb Archdiocese in the first church built in honor of Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of that historic event.
