The “Zagorka” factory is located in the center of Bedekovčina, and as a factory of bricks and firesand, it was one of the largest companies of its time with more than 500 employees. The factory covers an area of about 60,000 m2, and the building structure of the factory consists of an old brick factory building and ancillary buildings and warehouses. The factory was built by the Zagreb builder Ferdo Stejskal in 1889, as part of the “Stejskal Brothers Firesandand Bricks Factory”, and the impetus for its construction was quality clay and the proximity of the Zagreb–Čakovec railway. In the 1920s, warehouse buildings were erected, and the historic architecture today is surrounded by the recent construction of production halls and new administrative buildings, built on the site of former factory chimneys. The building has significant architectural and documentary value because it is the oldest building of this type in the Republic of Croatia. With the aim of developing cultural infrastructure, the Municipality plans to convert the space into a multimedia center.
