The builder of Jakob, Marija and Folks baths as well as the “Kurhaus” (spa building) and Bellevue restaurant, the famous merchant Jakob Badl, built parks and alleys next to these buildings in 1859, and Krapinske Toplice became a favorite fashionable beach of the Austro-Hungarian elite. On the western slope of the Zašat Hill, above Krapinske Toplice, a park forest was formed which extends all the way to the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene. It was an integral part of the spatial composition of the spa and was planted with oak, hornbeam, acacia and coniferous trees.
Today, there are three hospitals in Krapinske Toplice: the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation Krapinske Toplice, the Magdalena Clinic and the Akromion Special Hospital, all of which are located in the Toplice Central Park. The park is a favorite gathering place, both for the people of Toplice, and for the patients and guests of Toplice. The park is the starting point of the promenade of the Pedestrian Ring of Toplice – in the morning, patients first have their exercises under the watchful eye of physicians; there is a children's park and a multi-purpose playground, and many benches are very inviting to relax and enjoy the chirping of birds under the centuries-old chestnut trees. Every year, the park hosts a summer festival “BadlFest” under the stars.
